Taiyo Nippon Sanso Accelerates Sustainable Gas Technology Development for Semiconductor Manufacturing

Tokyo, Japan – May 30, 2025 – Taiyo Nippon Sanso Corporation (TNSC), the Japanese industrial gas company within the Nippon Sanso Holdings Group, has announced a significant focus on accelerating the development of gas technologies aimed at reducing environmental impact in semiconductor manufacturing processes. This initiative is part of the group’s strategy to achieve sustainable semiconductor manufacturing.

The decision aligns with the key strategies outlined in the Nippon Sanso Holdings Group’s mid-term management plan, which include “promoting sustainability management,” “exploring new businesses aimed at achieving a carbon-neutral society,” and “expanding the electronics business”. The group intends to contribute to the reduction of global greenhouse gases (GHG) through its products and technologies.

To advance this goal, TNSC is participating in the “Sustainable Semiconductor Technologies and Systems (SSTS)” research program. This program is led by imec, a globally recognized research and innovation hub focused on nanoelectronics and digital technology, and aims to reduce the environmental impact across the entire semiconductor industry.

The collaboration involves leveraging the combined expertise of TNSC and Nippon Gases, the Nippon Sanso Holdings Group’s European industrial gas company. By combining their knowledge in gas handling and gas chemistry with imec’s extensive understanding of semiconductor manufacturing, the companies aim to promote technology development that contributes to a sustainable society. The focus is specifically on developing gas technologies that enable the reduction of environmental impact in semiconductor manufacturing processes.

This acceleration of sustainable gas technology development underscores the increasing importance of environmental considerations within the semiconductor industry and the role industrial gas suppliers like TNSC play in enabling greener manufacturing practices.
